I was a wearing a hat with “sucker” written on it. I followed Apple’s recommendation and paid money for WeatherKit’s “Pro” version. I wanted to avoid any ads and access all of WeatherKit’s bells and whistles.
PLEASE, DON’T WASTE YOU MONEY!
I’ve tried and bought a lot of weather apps. I’m a geek for them. I Love them. Sometimes you get great visuals; sometimes you get excellent weather info such as with Dark Sky; sometimes you get both and true craft and you’ve hit the jackpot! So, hey! New Weather app! App Store said try it, you’ll like it! So, I thought I’d jump right to the paid version. Hey everybody, I just paid to step in poo!
“You too can waste your money on the Pro version of WeatherKit! See what a real crap UI looks like and (bonus) get an app that doesn’t really work!
There’s nothing about this app to recommend it. 100’s of other weather apps are exponentially better. But it’s not hard to beat something that tries for witty, looks like it was ‘designed’ with scissors and craft paper and makes IKEA instructions look intuitive.
Functionality? When you go to settings, you can tweak about two thing. Also, under settings you’ll find many things that have nothing to do with Settings. In this strange list, tap “Live Roadmap” or “Help Center” and you are shunted off to a Zendesk page that tells you
“Oops, this help center no longer exists”
VERY classy on WeatherKit’s part. 2 of their 7 “settings” are links to the Twilight Zone.
If you want to give away your money and check out the weather, don’t get WeatherKit. Help out a homeless person and look out the window for snow. Don’t get suckered by WeatherKit. They are either getting a good laugh at our expense or, god forbid, they believed their PR person.
Hello? Apple App Store? Did you just spin the wheel and it happened to land on WeatherKit? ‘Cause this little app is kind of pricey for a weather app, doesn’t do much more than give you the temp in a sad format and is just, well, tragic. I paid for all that WeatherKit had to offer and have now spent time writing this review.
“WeatherKit - the little app that couldn’t. And evidently didn’t really try”
