Back to Normal? The Highest-Earning Mobile Games in January
January is behind us, which means it's time to crunch the numbers and see if January beat December. I did that, and spoilers - it didn't. But things have shifted quite a bit.
Monopoly Go is back on top! Our estimates show the title took the crown with $104M of net revenue from the App Store and Google Play. While it didn't beat King of Glory in the App Store, the extra boost it got from Google Play, even though small, was enough to propel it to the top.
Compared to December, that's a drop of 11%. Painful, but that's the January effect.
Royal Match came in second in January, hauling $103M in estimated net revenue. Net means what Dream Games, the publisher, gets to keep after Apple and Google take their fees.
Unlike most other games on this list, Royal Match's revenue didn't drop in January.
King of Glory ranked 3rd in January "thanks" to a 25% drop in revenue. It ended January with $96M of net revenue from the App Store in China, according to our estimates. Although it's a big drop, I continue to be impressed with King of Glory's ability to turn downloads into cash, given it's only available in China's App Store.
Well, this isn't the only title to do that. In fact, two new China-only titles made it into our list in January. More on that in a minute.
Candy Crush and Peace Elite round out the top 5 for January, pushing Roblox out and into 6th place.
Right below Roblox we find TFT Mobile and Crossfire, two China-only titles that are new to our list. The pair raked in a vcombined total of $108M of net revenue from the App Store in Chine, according to our estimates. And keep in mind that's after Apple's fees.
Together, the top 10 highest earning games brought in $707M of net revenue in January, according to our App Intelligence. Revenue dropped 8% compared to December and that's not a real surprise, we're looking at an impressive 11% increase thanks to the holiday season!
