Vinted's Bet on the US Paid Off
Europe's largest second-hand marketplace, Vinted, made a serious push into the US earlier this year, taking on incumbents including eBay, Depop, and Poshmark. Sure, eBay isn't what it was a decade ago, but it's still eBay and this expansion was a big bet for Vinted.
I looked at the expansion back in May and things were looking good. Now, a whole summer in, I was curious if the initial hype ended or if Vinted is now something Americans are using.
Let's have a look at where Vinted is now, how its performance compares to incumbents, and think about what's likely to happen this upcoming holiday season.

Growth started as soon as the announcement was made and grew steadily from February on, with a big jump in August.
Appfigures Intelligence shows downloads started at 288K in January, jumped to 1.2M in April, and then more than doubled to 2.9M by August. As of September 20, Vinted's US downloads are sitting at 12M - and there's still a whole quarter to go including the holiday season.
For comparison, Vinted was downloaded just 1M times in the US in 2025. It's already doing 12x better.

Also interesting - in 2025, the US accounted for roughly 3% of Vinted's worldwide downloads. So far in 2026 that share rose to 35% and I suspect it'll go even higher by the year's end.
This demand has put Vinted at the top of the shopping category on both the App Store and Google Play, where it's been since August and doesn't seem to be letting go.
I'd call that a success.

And that's not all. In August, Vinted outpaced all three of its competitors.
Whether it's rising costs, the economy, or just a desire to give things we don't need a new home, second-hand marketplaces have been growing in popularity recently. That's probably why Meta released a standalone app for Facebook Marketplace not too long ago, and why I expect to see them spin it out of the main Facebook app.
Vinted saw the writing on the wall and jumped in with both feet to shake up the US market. I expect to see growth continue even faster as we enter the holiday season and that will cement Vinted's place in the market.
